Spring Fling Art

21th Annual Back 2 School Bash

On August 17th the 12th Annual Back to School Bash held by Our Youth Matter, Inc. will be back at Rainbow Recreation Center 5800 International Blvd. Oakland, CA 94621. This year their goal is to give out 500 backpacks, 500 hygiene kits and 500 books, with lots of additional other perks. To register for the event please go to:

Spring Fling Art

Teen Eco Action 2019

(Ages 13 - 17)
East Bay Regional Park District, in partnership with Oakland Parks, Recreation, and Youth Development is proud to present "Teen Eco Action 2019". Join us, July 22nd to July 26th (9am - 4:30pm), for an exploration of Oakland's creeks, rolling green hills, dynamic waterways, and City and Regional Parks. We will be exploring Oakland's natural wonders by boating, biking, fishing, hiking, and doing community service projects. You will also learn job skills and learn about careers in Parks and Recreations.

Here's what you commit to:

- Successfully apply and interview for a place on the team
- Check in everyday from July 22nd - July 26th, 9:00am at Digital Arts and Culinary Academy (check out at 4:30pm)
- Work hard on service projects in the Parks
- Take part in career talks
- Be ready to go on outdoor adventures

Here's what you get:

- 15 hours of community service
- Work experience in Parks and Recreation
- Tips for applying to future jobs
- $100 stipend upon successful completion
- Fun!
- Meet new people!

How to Apply:

Download the application or request an application packet from Claytoven Richardson by calling (510) 615-5807 or emailing him at crichardson@oaklandca.gov. Applications have to be turned in at Digital Arts and Culinary Academy (DACA), 5818 International Blvd, Oakland, CA 94621 by July 1st. Interviews will take place on July 3 and July 5. If you are accepted, you will receive a confirmation letter with more details about the program. Ms Atiba's Art Camp

(Ages 10 - 14) Special Event
You will create art from different cultures including Adinkra, Aboriginal, First Nation, Asia. You will also learn about artists from around the world and render their styles using various mediums.

Culinary PhotoCooking Basics for Adults

You will learn intermediate cooking techniques to help you prepare restaurant quality dishes at home. Skills learned in this class: Dicing vegetables, sautéing, roasting, searing meats, how to make pan sauces, and how to make healthier substitutions of ingredients.

This class encompasses basic culinary arts skills. Learn how to plan and make meals while developing basic culinary skills. Also, learn basic nutrition information on how to eat healthy and the importance of using fresh vegetables when cooking any meal in the kitchen.

Urban Gardening

Be prepared to get your hands dirty, grow fruits and veggies, and learn new things. Participants receive hands-on instruction in organic city farming, including interactive discussions, field trips, and activities such as composting, pruning, seed sprouting, mixing soil, fertilizing, transplanting seedlings, weeding, and harvesting. (The class is co-sponsored by the Rainbow Recreation Center.)

Grandma's Hands

(Ages 40+) Course ID: 00013182
This10-week course will help individuals learn how to interface with existing land/gardens. Working as a team, you will have gain the ability to work the land/gardens under supervised coaching, along with written guidelines. This course will provide hands on experience opportunities to gain skills needed for an entry level gardener/landscaper profession. This course will provide information, educational training on-site instructions; instructions on how to survey the soil, landscape, garden, weeding, planting, replanting, replacing, clip trees/shrubs/bushes whatever is applicable. You will be advised on how to manage, maintain and process foods for your wellbeing towards a healthy lifestyle.

Video For Social Media

Have you always wanted to be behind the camera? Do you have a story to tell or a music video you want to make? This program will introduce participants to video equipment and techniques that will support producing video projects. You will complete a series of exercises and individual projects that will give you a foundation for personal expression through digital media. Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate a variety of production skills and techniques including: camera basics, lighting skills, sound recording, story-boarding and editing.

Beginning Drawing

This class is an introduction into the world of sketching. Shapes, figures, shading, perspective, and texture are some of the art concepts that we will be exploring. Materials will be provided.

Beat Making-Songwriting

(Ages 13 - 17) Course IDs: 00013733 & 00013734
Reason is integrated music production software with a massive collection of sounds and digital instruments included. In this class you will learn how to make and produce songs using synthesizers, samplers, and drum machines. This is a hands on class that will show you the basic fundamentals of creating your own music. Basic piano chords and studio etiquette will also be emphasized.

Kidz Bop Camp

Students will be recorded singing a kid-friendly version of a pop music hit. During this time they will learn the recording process. Students will then have an opportunity to learn the basics of video making by producing a music video of the recorded song as the final project.

Agreculture PhotoBeginning Guitar - Adults

The Beginning Guitar class will help you learn the parts of the acoustic guitar, how to hold a guitar, use a pick, and, tune a guitar. You will also learn some basic chords and a few songs. Come learn finger and hand exercises, as well as, learn how to properly maintain your guitar so that it lasts for years to come.

Agreculture PhotoStudio Training Workshop

With the guidance of GRAMMY Award winning instructor, Claytoven Richardson will help bridge the gap between the academic and professional music worlds by providing singers with hands on experience in the environment of a professional recording studio. Students will learn techniques on proper headphone use, how to blend with others, how to choose the right microphone, protocol for session singers, how to find employment as a session singer, and much more.
