GARDENING EXPERIENCE

Garden PhotoGrandma's Hands

(Ages 40+) Course ID: 00013597
This 8-week course will help individuals learn how to interface with existing land/gardens. Working as a team, you will have the ability to work the land/gardens under supervised coaching, along with written guidelines. This course will provide hands on experience opportunities to gain skills needed for an entry-level gardener/landscaper profession. This course will provide information, educational training on-site instructions; instructions on how to survey the soil, landscape, garden, weeding, planting, replanting, replacing, clip trees/shrubs/bushes whatever is applicable. You will be advised on how to manage, maintain and process foods for your wellbeing towards a healthy lifestyle.

Have you always wanted to be behind the camera? Do you have a story to tell or a music video you want to make? This program will introduce participants to video equipment and techniques that will support producing video projects. You will complete a series of exercises and individual projects that will give you a foundation for personal expression through digital media. Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate a variety of production skills and techniques including: camera basics, lighting skills, sound recording, storyboarding and editing.

(No Class on January 21 for Martin Lurther King Jr Day and February 18th for President's Day)

COOKING EXPERIENCE

Salad DrawingCooking Basics For Adults

In this class you will learn basic cooking skills such as: chopping, sautéing, sauces, simple butchering, and nutrition. The goal of this class is to provide you, the home cook with enough information to make healthier food choices. And, just in time for Valentine's Day to learn the skills you need to execute a gourmet meal from scratch.

Cupcakes PhotoFun With Baking Basics

With guidance of Chef Scott Marsh workshop attendees will learn the fundamental techniques of baking. Students will also learn how to make cookies, cakes, frostings, pastry creams, and breads. This will be the perfect forum for students to learn how to work with groups and managing time.

Kidz Bop Camp

Students will be recorded singing a kid-friendly version of a pop music hit. During this time they will learn the recording process. Students will then have an opportunity to learn the basics of video making by producing a music video of the recorded song as the final project.

(No class on March 25th and 27th for Spring Break)

C4HA DrawingCooking For Health Academy

(Ages 18+) Course ID: 00013726
This is the perfect class to learn basic cooking skills. You will also learn what you need to know to successfully get a Food Handler's Certificate. Each class covers: nutrition education, basis culinary skills, hands-on food preparation, food safety, and seasonal produce tips. After attending of all classes participants will receive a certificate of completion. The last class on April 17th will be from 3pm to 7pm for those that want to take the online training and exam to earn a Food Handler's Certificate. This class is sponsored by the Alameda County Nutrition Services.

This class encompasses basic culinary arts skills. Learn how to plan and make meals while developing basic culinary skills. Also, learn basic nutrition information on how to eat healthy and the importance of using fresh vegetables when cooking any meal in the kitchen.

Be prepared to get your hands dirty, grow fruits and veggies, and learn new things. Participants receive hands-on instruction in organic city farming, including interactive discussions, field trips, and activities such as composting, pruning, seed sprouting, mixing soil, fertilizing, transplanting seedlings, weeding, and harvesting. (The class is co-sponsored by the Rainbow Recreation Center.)

Beat Making-Songwriting

Reason is integrated music production software with a massive collection of sounds and digital instruments included. In this class you will learn how to make and produce songs using synthesizers, samplers, and drum machines. This is a hands on class that will show you the basic fundamentals of creating your own music. Basic piano chords and studio etiquette will also be emphasized.

Agreculture PhotoBeginning Guitar - Adults

The Beginning Guitar class will help you learn the parts of the acoustic guitar, how to hold a guitar, use a pick, and, tune a guitar. You will also learn some basic chords and a few songs. Come learn finger and hand exercises, as well as, learn how to properly maintain your guitar so that it lasts for years to come.

With the guidance of GRAMMY Award winning instructor, Claytoven Richardson will help bridge the gap between the academic and professional music worlds by providing singers with hands on experience in the environment of a professional recording studio. Students will learn techniques on proper headphone use, how to blend with others, how to choose the right microphone, protocol for session singers, how to find employment as a session singer, and much more.
